Steve Collingwood is an independent telescope engineer and currently the only factory trained and certified Meade technician in the U.K.
I am a director of Pulsar Observatories and spend most of my time installing our observatories all over the country. You can check out Pulsar observatories here:
I am also very proud to own the historical company of Broadhurst Clarkson and Fuller Ltd which has a trading history dating back to 1785. BC&F lives on through my own workshop and I still use many original tools from the old workshop in London.
I have over ten years experience in running the Meade U.K service department. I was also the last ever craftsman at Broadhurst Clarkson & Fuller Ltd – a telescope company first founded in 1750 by Benjamin Martin. Keeping the art of classic telescope making and restoration alive. Preserving the traditional skills and tooling which would otherwise be lost. I now own the Broadhust Clarkson and Fuller Ltd. company and am building a website to document its long history. The BC&F website can be found here: www.bcftelescopes.co.uk
I was very privileged to have been commissioned to restore Sir Patrick Moore’s telescopes some years ago too. Patrick was a close friend and is sadly missed. Whilst being a Meade specialist, I have a broad experience of working on most major brands of instruments including Celestron, Skywatcher, William Optics and Takahashi.
A keen amateur astronomer for many years, I occasionally enjoy observing from my home observatory in rural Kent. Sadly the weather rarely allows it! I am also a keen supporter of the Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux where I help maintain the historic Telescopes. I sponsor the Astronomy Festival each year and generally make a nuisance of myself. It’s a wonderful place to visit. I am a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society but the society magazine uses words I struggle to understand.. Furthermore I have also reached the dizzying heights of gaining my Stargazer badge with the Brownies.
